Yes, November is one of the best months to visit The Bahamas. The summer heat and the heaviest rain are behind us: at the Nassau airport the average November high is about 83°F (28°C), the average low is about 70°F (21°C), and rain falls on about nine days of the month, according to the Bahamas Department of Meteorology. Hurricane season does not officially end until November 30, so a late storm is still possible, and the first cold fronts bring breezy days and rough seas. Keep an eye on the forecast, buy travel insurance, and you will catch the islands in a quieter stretch before the Christmas and Junkanoo season.
I write this from Exuma, where November is when we finally breathe after the long, hot summer. Here are the questions visitors are searching most this month, answered from official sources and from home.
What is the weather like in the Bahamas in November?
November is the start of our dry season. The Department of Meteorology describes the dry season as running from November to April, and its 1991 to 2020 records for Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau show the change clearly:
| Nassau airport | October | November | December |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 87.0°F (30.6°C) | 82.9°F (28.3°C) | 80.3°F (26.8°C) |
| Average low | 74.5°F (23.6°C) | 70.1°F (21.2°C) | 67.2°F (19.6°C) |
| Rainfall | 5.93 in (151 mm) | 3.41 in (87 mm) | 1.70 in (43 mm) |
| Rain days | 13 | 9 | 7 |

The big change is cold fronts. From about late October, the Department of Meteorology explains, fronts push down from North America, bringing cooler air and strong northwesterly breezes for a few days. In the 1991 to 2020 records, the coolest November night at the Nassau airport was 54.9°F (12.7°C). Most nights are far milder, but pack a light sweater.
The islands are not all the same. The Department of Meteorology notes that the northern islands run cooler than New Providence in the cooler months and the southern islands about five degrees warmer. Long-term averages put Freeport, Grand Bahama, at about 81°F (27°C) by day and 67°F (19°C) at night in November, while Matthew Town on Great Inagua averages about 87°F (31°C) and 71°F (22°C).
Is November still hurricane season in the Bahamas?
Yes. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and both the US National Hurricane Center and the Government of Canada’s travel advice say so. The Caribbean Regional Climate Centre (CIMH) says activity usually peaks until mid-October, but storms and hurricanes have formed after the official end date.
We remember what a November storm can do. On November 9, 2022, Nicole made landfall at Marsh Harbour, Great Abaco, as a tropical storm, then became a Category 1 hurricane as it made landfall on Grand Bahama later that same day, according to the National Hurricane Center’s report on the storm. People were evacuated from parts of the northwestern Bahamas ahead of it, three years after Dorian.
This season has been quiet so far. The CIMH says El Niño conditions held the first half of the 2026 season to only five tropical storms with minimal impact in the Caribbean, and it forecast fewer storms than usual from September to November. Canada’s travel advice also notes that El Niño conditions are present. But as the CIMH warns, one strong storm is enough.
As of November 2, 2026, the Department of Meteorology says no tropical cyclone activity is expected in the next seven days. The National Hurricane Center is watching an area where low pressure may form a few hundred miles northeast of The Bahamas, with only a low (20 percent) chance of development over seven days, and expects it to move away by the weekend. A near gale warning is up for the northern islands, with a high risk of rip currents. The full update is in today's Bahamas News Today.
If a storm does threaten your dates, the Ministry of Tourism says many Bahamian hotels have hurricane cancellation policies that allow a full refund, so ask your hotel before you book. Is it safe to travel to the Bahamas in November?
Yes, with the same care you would take in any city. Here is where the main travel advisories stand on November 2, 2026:
- United States: Level 2, “Exercise increased caution”, because of crime. The State Department issued this level on July 28, 2026, and says most crime happens in Nassau and Freeport.
- Canada: “Exercise a high degree of caution” because of high crime rates, especially in Nassau and Freeport. Australia uses the same wording.
- United Kingdom: the Foreign Office advice for The Bahamas was marked still current on November 2, 2026, and tells travellers to get insurance that covers their trip and activities.
The advice that matters most on the ground is simple, and the US, Australian and Bahamian sources agree on it:
- Use licensed taxis and agree on the fare before you get in.
- Book boat trips, jet skis and excursions through your hotel or a licensed operator, not someone who approaches you on the beach. The US State Department does not allow its own staff to rent jet skis from independent operators on New Providence and Paradise Island.
- Never pack a gun or a single round of ammunition, even by mistake. Bahamian police strictly enforce the law, and the State Department says US citizens have been detained for days over ammunition found in their bags.
- Never swim alone, and respect the weather. November cold fronts can bring rough water and rip currents, so follow the Department of Meteorology’s marine warnings and the flags on your beach.
One more 2026 rule: the Government of The Bahamas has temporarily barred entry to travellers coming from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan, on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

What is happening in the Bahamas in November 2026?
November is National Sports Month, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports is spotlighting Bahamian women in sport this year. Two of the month’s biggest events fall on the same day, Saturday, November 7:
- The Conchman Triathlon on Taino Beach, Grand Bahama. Besides the sprint triathlon there are a mini-sprint, duathlon, aquathlon, aquabike, a 5K run and races for children.
- The Exuma Half Marathon, featuring the Run for Pompey, now in its 12th year. It starts at the Pompey Memorial Statue in Steventon and honours Pompey, who led a revolt against slavery on Exuma in the 19th century. Proceeds go to the Pompey Scholarship for a deserving student. If you fly in for it, stop at Kermit's Airport Lounge by the airport.
US Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, so book early if you plan to travel that week. And if you are already thinking ahead, Junkanoo parades take place on Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year’s Day (January 1), with the biggest one in downtown Nassau.
Do you need a passport to visit the Bahamas?
Yes. The Bahamas Department of Immigration says everyone entering must have a passport valid for at least six months, and US passport cards are not accepted. You also need a return or onward ticket and enough money for your stay, and you must fill out the immigration arrival and departure card before you land.
- US, UK and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for visits of up to eight months, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- US green card holders can visit for up to 30 days with their green card and their national passport.
- The old Bahamas Health Visa and pre-arrival COVID-19 tests are gone.
- If a child is travelling with only one parent, a notarized letter from the other parent may be requested.
- Cruise passengers: if your nationality needs a Bahamas visa, you need one for a cruise too. Check the rest of your documents with your cruise line.
What should you pack for the Bahamas in November?
- Light summer clothes for the day, plus a light sweater or jacket for breezy evenings after a cold front.
- A rain jacket or small umbrella. November showers usually pass quickly.
- Sunscreen and a hat. The sun is still strong, and the Ministry of Tourism reminds visitors to take breaks and drink water.
- Something to cover your swimsuit. Beachwear is not worn in churches, restaurants or casinos, and some hotels and restaurants in Nassau, Paradise Island and Freeport expect jackets for men at night.
- Some cash for the Family Islands. The Bahamian dollar is kept equal to the US dollar and both are accepted on every island, but not every small shop takes cards.
Which island should you visit in November?
Nassau and Paradise Island have the most flights, hotels and things to do. Grand Bahama is cooler in the evenings and has the Conchman on November 7. Exuma gives you calm turquoise water, the Run for Pompey and the swimming pigs at Big Major Cay. If you want the warmest November days, look south to islands like Inagua, home of our flamingos.
