Good News Bahamas: Schools, Exuma Growth, Local Eggs and Record Visitors

Oct 21, 2026

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has unveiled a strategic roadmap targeting an 85 per cent graduation rate by 2030, alongside the new Bahamas Education, Science and Technology (BEST) Foundation, an independent non-profit run by a private sector-led board, The Tribune and the Nassau Guardian report. Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper said the foundation gives businesses, churches, civic groups and Bahamians at home and abroad a way to support scholarships, technology and programmes for students.

In Exuma, some $1.5 billion in investment projects are progressing, with Torch Cay expected to hold a soft opening this year and an announcement on the fully funded Cave Cay development expected shortly, Mr Cooper told the 20th Exuma Business Outlook, per the Nassau Guardian. Meanwhile, the government’s Golden Yolk egg project has produced 200,000 eggs, with 10,000 laying hens and about 8,000 pullets being raised, The Tribune reports.

Tourism remains strong: the Ministry of Tourism reports a record 1,314,639 stopover visitors from January to July 2026, with Exuma air arrivals up 18.6 per cent. And the National Hurricane Center reports no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at present, though mariners are advised to watch forecasts for rough seas near the northern Bahamas this weekend.
