A Serious Flu Is Circulating
A Serious Flu Is Circulating
Silence Is the Real Danger
By: Michael Elijah Muhammad Clare
A severe strain of influenza is currently circulating, originating in parts of Florida and now appearing in certain areas of The Bahamas. Despite growing concern within the public, there has been little to no official communication addressing the situation.
Reports indicate that several individuals at Princess Margaret Hospital have recently passed away where influenza-related complications were a contributing factor. These cases involve secondary complications commonly associated with aggressive flu infections, particularly among vulnerable patients.
What is most troubling is not only the presence of this illness, but the apparent lack of transparency surrounding it. Public health relies on timely, accurate information. Silence creates uncertainty, and uncertainty fuels fear, speculation, and mistrust.
If health authorities maintain that there is no significant concern, the public deserves a clear explanation—one that addresses why hospitals are seeing an increase in flu-related complications and deaths. Ignoring the issue does not protect the population; informed citizens protect themselves.
The Bahamas has faced public health challenges before, and history has shown that early acknowledgment and honest communication save lives. This is not about panic, it is about preparedness, accountability, and respect for the Bahamian people.
The public deserves clarity. The public deserves facts. And most importantly, the public deserves honesty.

The Bahamas Should Leave CARICOM, We Just Don’t Need Them
The Bahamas Should Leave CARICOM, We Just Don’t Need Them
By: Michael Elijah Muhammad Clare
CARICOM was created on July 4, 1973, with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas. It was formed during a post-colonial era when newly independent Caribbean nations believed regional unity was necessary for survival in a world dominated by larger powers. That world no longer exists. The global system today operates on leverage, economic relevance, strategic positioning, and direct bilateral relationships, not sentimental regional alliances.
For decades, Bahamians have been told that CARICOM is essential to our survival. This claim is not supported by evidence. The Bahamas has never depended on CARICOM to survive economically, politically, or globally. Our nation’s stability, prosperity, and international relevance were built independently of CARICOM structures, and in many cases despite them.
The Bahamas is one of the strongest economies in the Caribbean. Our GDP per capita exceeds that of most CARICOM member states. Our economy is driven by tourism, financial services, maritime industries, aviation, and foreign direct investment. None of these pillars rely on CARICOM. Our most important trade, security, and financial relationships exist outside the region, primarily with the United States, Canada, Europe, and global institutions.
CARICOM does not open meaningful markets for Bahamian businesses. It does not protect Bahamian financial services. It does not strengthen the Bahamian dollar, reduce crime, or increase employment for Bahamians. What it does require is money, millions over time, paid into a regional bureaucracy that produces meetings, statements, and declarations with little measurable return.
For The Bahamas, CARICOM functions largely as political theater. It is slow-moving, consensus-driven to the point of paralysis, and incapable of decisive action. When regional crises arise, whether crime, illegal migration, economic shocks, or external diplomatic pressure, CARICOM responses are usually delayed, watered down, or symbolic. In practice, The Bahamas still handles its problems alone using its own resources and bilateral partnerships.
Bahamian politicians who insist that CARICOM is vital to our survival are not speaking from economic or strategic reality. They are repeating outdated talking points. Bahamian’s should be highly skeptical of any politician attempting to persuade the public that CARICOM is critical to our national survival in any form, regionally or globally.
If CARICOM were truly essential, its benefits would be obvious, measurable, and undeniable. They are not.
So why do politicians continue to promote CARICOM?
First, CARICOM provides political cover. Leaders can hide behind “regional consensus” to avoid accountability for unpopular or ineffective decisions at home. Second, CARICOM offers personal and political incentives, regional prominence, international exposure, leadership roles, travel, and influence for political elites. Third, an entire regional political class depends on maintaining the illusion that CARICOM still matters as much as it once did. None of this benefits the average Bahamian.
CARICOM also places disproportionate expectations on The Bahamas. Because of our relative economic strength, we are often expected to contribute more financially and diplomatically while receiving little in return. The Bahamas is treated as a support system for weaker economies rather than an equal partner. That is not cooperation, it is dead weight.
Immigration and labor issues highlight this imbalance even further. CARICOM’s push for freer movement of people ignores the unique realities of The Bahamas. We are a small island nation with limited land, housing, infrastructure, and social services. Policies that may work for larger mainland states are dangerous for a country like ours. Increased migration pressure threatens Bahamian jobs, public services, and national cohesion.
National sovereignty matters. CARICOM frequently attempts to pressure member states into adopting policies or positions that conflict with domestic priorities and public opinion. The Bahamas should never outsource decision-making authority to a regional bloc that does not share our economic structure and does not bear the consequences of its advice.
The argument that leaving CARICOM would isolate The Bahamas is outdated fear-mongering. The Bahamas is already globally connected. We engage directly with major powers, comply with international regulatory regimes, attract global investment, and maintain diplomatic relevance without CARICOM’s help. Our importance comes from our location, stability, and economic role, not from regional membership.
CARICOM was designed for the realities of the 1970s. The Bahamas is operating in the realities of the 21st century. Continuing to pour money, time, and political capital into an organization that offers diminishing returns is not loyalty, it is inertia.
Leaving CARICOM would not mean abandoning regional cooperation. It would mean engaging the region on our own terms through bilateral agreements and issue-specific partnerships that actually deliver results. The money currently sent to CARICOM could be reinvested at home, in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and crime prevention.
The Bahamas does not need CARICOM for survival. It never did.
CARICOM, however, would immediately feel the loss of The Bahamas.
It is time for The Bahamas to pull out, clearly, confidently, and without apology.

Stop going into relationships trying to fix broken people.
How many lies can ever equal the truth?
How many lies can ever equal the truth?
When a lie is repeated by many, it can begin to appear as truth. Just as a demon wrapped in light can present itself as an angel of the Most High.
The same principle applies to nasty rumors spread about others. Wisdom requires more than listening to voices, it requires observing behavior and character.
As Jesus said plainly, you shall know the tree by the fruit it bears.
A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. So bless the Most High God of worlds, Yahweh, and give thanks…
