The Bahamas Islands Briefing · Full EditionA calm early morning across the chain: Exuma’s twentieth annual Business Outlook is tomorrow in George Town, the southern islands and Family Islands had no brand-new local headlines since our last briefing, Nassau’s capital desk stayed quiet, and we close with Wednesday’s weather, a National Hurricane Center all-clear for new tropical cyclone formation, and advice for Exuma travellers and young hurdlers.
Exuma: Business Outlook tomorrow, Sampson Cay still pending

A one-day reminder: the 20th annual Exuma Business Outlook is tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, at the St. Andrew’s Community Centre in George Town. Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper leads the speakers under the theme “Strengthening Foundations for Long-Term Prosperity,” with aviation, workforce and entrepreneurship on the agenda, The Tribune reported earlier this month.
There is still no ruling in the Supreme Court fight over the Rosewood Exuma project on Sampson Cay. We will report the decision when it comes down.

The southern islands: a quiet stretch

From Inagua and Mayaguana through Acklins, Crooked Island and Ragged Island, we found no new local headlines since our last briefing.

The same was true for Long Island, Cat Island, San Salvador and Rum Cay. We are still watching for an update on the Long Island mailboat delays, but there was no fresh early-morning confirmation.
Family Islands northward: early-morning quiet

Up through Eleuthera, Andros, the Berry Islands, Bimini and Abaco, the early-morning check was quiet. We found no brand-new local headlines since the previous briefing.

Grand Bahama was the same story on the early desk. No new local headlines. We will keep watching Freeport and the west end.
Nassau: a quiet capital desk, and calendars that still matter

We checked The Tribune, Our News, Bahamas Latest, Eyewitness News and The Nassau Guardian. There were no brand-new Nassau headlines on the early desk that we had not already reported.
Instead of repeating earlier stories, two calendar dates still matter. Tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, Exuma hosts the Business Outlook in George Town. And this Saturday, October 17, Devynne Charlton’s Barrier Breakers free hurdles clinic is at Preston H. Albury High School in Rock Sound, Eleuthera, as Our News previously reported.

Weather and tropical outlook
For New Providence on Wednesday, Open-Meteo calls for a high near 85°F, a low around 73°F, east-northeast winds around 9 mph, and about a 38 to 40 percent chance of showers, with heavier rain possible in spots. Thursday looks a little warmer, near 86 to 87°F, with a lower shower chance around 25 percent and a bit more breeze.
The National Hurricane Center’s Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook states that tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 7 days.

Our advice
On a quiet news morning, check on your people. Call a neighbour on a Family Island. If you are heading to Exuma tomorrow for the Business Outlook, leave early, bring cards, and listen more than you talk. Parents: if your teen runs hurdles, get them to Charlton’s Eleuthera clinic on the 17th. And watch Wednesday showers — road spray and standing water sneak up fast.
