The 20th annual Exuma Business Outlook is tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Community Centre in George Town. Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, Exuma’s MP, leads the speakers under the theme “Strengthening Foundations for Long-Term Prosperity.” Exuma Chamber of Commerce executive director Emmett Saunders has asked for Exuma-specific recommendations and realistic timeframes. Sampson Cay: there is still no Supreme Court ruling in the challenge to the Rosewood Exuma environmental approvals. Travellers by boat into the cays this week should leave a float plan, monitor VHF channel 16, and carry extra fuel and water.

Twenty Pearls. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Pi Upsilon Omega Chapter kicked off its 39th annual Twenty Pearls programme with a pinning ceremony for 46 high-school girls at the Rand Nature Center. Senator D’Asante Small keynoted under the theme “The Power of Excellence,” urging daily discipline and real mentorship beyond social media. Committee chair Alisa Arthur says the young women will do church and community service, college readiness and leadership sessions, with awards and scholarships on April 4, 2027. Last year the programme awarded more than $15,000 in scholarships. Source: The Tribune

McLean’s Town Conch Festival. East End celebrated culture at the 54th annual McLean’s Town Conch Cracking Festival, drawing residents, returning natives and visitors. East Grand Bahama MP Kwasi Thompson and Grand Bahama Minister Ginger Moxey were among those who turned out. Conch cracking was the highlight, food stalls kept the island fed, and the Ministry of Tourism helped with complimentary buses so more people could get there. Source: The Tribune

Still watching on Grand Bahama. Union leader Obie Ferguson is warning the government to pay former Grand Lucayan workers by Friday. Prime Minister Philip Davis has said the workers were paid and that what remains is a dispute over the amounts. Please keep sharing: 75-year-old Lynda Pinder of Lewis Yard, who lives with Alzheimer’s, has been missing since late September. If you have seen her, call the police.

Nassau and the nation: Stokes Beach, courts, and Albany

Stokes Beach wall. Beaches and Parks Authority chairman Jamal Strachan is defending construction of a boundary wall near Stokes Beach in Yamacraw, saying the Ministry of Works issued a valid permit after a survey error, and that Bahamians will keep a route to the shoreline. Advocacy group Dis We Beach says work was halted over safety and missing environmental clearance, and that Environment Minister Zane Lightbourne, who is also Yamacraw’s MP, raised concerns. The group wants clear land-access legislation so Bahamians can reach the foreshore by foot, not only by boat. Source: The Tribune

Hospital Lane attempted murder. Joshua Williams, 28, was remanded after being accused of attempting to murder Henrich Curry by stabbing him with a screwdriver during an altercation on Hospital Lane on the evening of October 5. Police later allegedly found Williams carrying the same screwdriver. He faces attempted murder and unlawfully carrying arms, with a voluntary bill of indictment scheduled for January 28, 2027, and he was advised of his right to seek Supreme Court bail. Albany alcohol heist. Two men appeared in court over the theft of about $5,055 worth of alcohol from Albany Resort last week. One pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods and also faces a separate charge of assaulting a man with his vehicle. Source: The Tribune

Still watching. On the wider capital desk midday, we found no brand-new hard updates beyond the Sandals Royal Bahamian limitation ruling, the Public Accounts Committee’s National Investment Fund and voucher questions, and the U.S. Embassy–BIFF film conversation already reported earlier today. Two calendar dates still matter nationwide: Exuma’s Business Outlook tomorrow, and Charlton’s Rock Sound clinic on Saturday.

Weather and tropical outlook

New Providence on Wednesday: mostly cloudy and warm, a high near 87°F, a low around 77°F, east-northeast winds around 9–10 mph, and about a 20 percent chance of a passing shower. Thursday: a high near 89°F, a low around 77°F, winds turning more easterly around 10 mph, and about a 33 percent shower chance (Open-Meteo). The U.S. National Hurricane Center reports tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 7 days.

Our advice

Exuma business owners: tomorrow is your day — show up, bring your questions, and hold speakers to realistic timeframes. Parents and coaches in South Eleuthera: get young hurdlers to Charlton’s free clinic on Saturday. If you use Stokes Beach, keep an eye on that Yamacraw wall fight and speak up for clear public access. And if you have family on Long Island, especially seniors, keep checking in until the mailboat situation improves.
