Sun City Tragedy: 82-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Husband at Assisted Living Home
Hilton Head Island, SC, In a shocking turn of events at the quiet Preston Health Center at the Cypress of Hilton Head, an elderly couple’s twilight years ended in tragedy this past Friday morning when an 82-year-old woman allegedly shot and killed her husband.
Harriett Kay Recker, 82, of Sun City, was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office after deputies responded to shots fired around 10:30 a.m. at the assisted living facility. Inside one of the patient rooms, they discovered Harriett beside her husband of 81 years, Dennis Recker, who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are yet to reveal the precise cause or circumstances of the disagreement that led to the fatal shot.
Harriett now faces charges of murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. She is being held at the county detention center, with bond not yet set as the investigation continues.
