The homeless angel in Exuma

The homeless angel in Exuma

Good afternoon, and thank you, Bahama Drama, for giving me the opportunity to share my story today. To my beloved people of Exuma, I want to remind you that not everything is as it appears. My earthly name is Travis, and some of you may have seen me around, asking for something to eat or looking for work. You may have thought I had little to offer, but I assure you, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Like many of you, I’ve faced hard times. There were days when hope seemed like a distant memory, and the good times felt like they were never coming back. But even in those moments of struggle, I held on to my faith. I trusted that God would see me through, lifting me up when I was down, guiding me through the darkness.

My lowest points weren’t when I had nothing or when it felt like my prayers went unanswered. The hardest moments were when people treated me as less than human, as if I didn’t have a soul like theirs. It was painful to be chased away from businesses like a stray dog or to be looked at as nothing more than a nuisance. The dismissive glances, the harsh words—it all cut deep, deeper than hunger or cold ever could.

But even in those times, I found solace in the kindness of God’s people on this blessed island. There were those who saw me not as a burden, but as a brother. They offered me food when I was hungry, a kind word when I was lost. They treated me like family, and in those moments, I felt the grace of God more profoundly than ever before.

To those who extended a hand, who offered a smile, who gave without expecting anything in return—I see you. I feel the love of the Most High shining through you. Because of your compassion, the spirit of the Almighty will continue to dwell here in the Exuma Cays. This island is truly blessed, not just for its beauty, but for the hearts of its people. May God’s grace remain here always.

Hebrews 13:2

“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”

This verse encourages people to be kind, generous, and welcoming to strangers, emphasizing that one never knows the true nature or importance of the person they are helping. It’s a reminder that acts of kindness and hospitality can have far-reaching and even divine implications, as one might unknowingly be entertaining an angel. This verse highlights the importance of treating all people with compassion and respect, regardless of their outward appearance or circumstances…
