Wake up, Bahamas! We have been complaining about our island roads for decades, completely blind to the economic goldmine sitting right beneath our tires. Potholes are not an infrastructure problem. They are our country’s most abundant natural resource!
Every day, thousands of tourists arrive on our shores, rent a little Nissan March, and receive a complimentary Baja 500 off-road safari experience just by driving down the street. Why are we letting them enjoy this adventure for free? They are getting a premium suspension-testing experience, and the public purse is not seeing a dime!
Lincoln Bain, I hope you are taking notes, because this is one natural resource even the COI has not fought for yet. It is time to reclaim our asphalt craters!
We need an immediate 0.19% Pothole VAT on all visitors. This single, strategic tax will get our great nation completely out of debt and cover all our annual government expenses. The Pothole VAT is the future!
Furthermore, we need to stop filling them in. LET’S PASS THESE POTHOLES DOWN TO BUILD BAHAMIAN GENERATIONAL WEALTH!
My grandfather blew a tire in that crater in 1998. I blew a tire there today. And if we protect our national heritage, my grandson will blow a tire there in 2050!
Now THAT is a legacy!
PAGE REPLY & ADDITIONAL THOUGHT:
Why stop at the streets? We need to start installing potholes on our beaches, too! We can rebrand them for cruise ship passengers as “Custom VIP Eco-Tide Pools” and charge an extra $50 a day for the privilege of sitting in them.
JUST A SUGGESTION!
