If China Is So Great, Why Not Fix Haiti First?
If China Is So Great, Why Not Fix Haiti First?
By: Michael Elijah Muhammad Clare
For years, people around the world have been hearing the same message.
America is declining.
China is rising.
The old powers are fading.
A new leader is coming.
On social media, in politics, and in international meetings, China is often presented as the better option.
The better partner.
The better example.
The better future.
But there is a simple question that does not require high education or special training to understand.
If China and its government are so great, why haven’t they fixed Haiti?
Right here in the Caribbean.
Right in front of the world.
Right where everyone can see.
The New Love Illusion
Think about it like this.
A woman has been with a man for many years.
They have shared struggles, bills, problems, and responsibilities.
Then she meets someone new.
He sounds better.
He talks sweeter.
He promises more.
He looks more exciting.
Suddenly, her old relationship looks boring.
So she leaves.
But when she gets to the new relationship, she realizes something.
The new man has problems too.
Different problems.
Sometimes worse problems.
The grass only looked greener from far away.
That is how global politics works.
Some countries get tired of America and the West.
So they look at China and say, “Maybe China is better.”
But have they really checked?
Haiti Is the Real Test
Haiti is not far away.
It is our neighbor.
It is part of our region.
It is part of our story.
For decades, Haiti has struggled with:
Poverty
Crime
Political instability
Weak institutions
Poor infrastructure
Unemployment
Lack of opportunity
Everyone knows this.
So Haiti is the perfect test.
If China truly knows how to build nations…
If China truly has a better system…
If China truly wants to lead…
Why not start with Haiti?
Build real factories.
Create real jobs.
Train real workers.
Fix roads and ports.
Support schools and hospitals.
Stabilize government systems.
Grow a middle class.
Not just loans.
Not just speeches.
Not just photo opportunities.
Real change.
If China can do that, the whole world will listen.
If not, then the talk means nothing.
The Mirage in the Desert
When people are dying of thirst in the desert, they see water.
They see rivers.
They see lakes.
They see palm trees.
They run toward it.
When they arrive, it disappears.
It was a mirage.
That is how easy promises look in politics.
From far away, China looks like water.
Big money.
Big projects.
Big influence.
But many countries discover later:
Heavy debt
Limited control
Few local jobs
Foreign workers
Long contracts
Hidden conditions
The water disappears.
Reality remains.
Hard Truths People Avoid
Here are truths many people do not like to admit.
No country can fix another country overnight.
Leadership matters.
Honesty matters.
Law and order matters.
Culture matters.
Education matters.
Institutions matter.
You cannot pour money into a broken system and expect miracles.
That is why Haiti is difficult.
Not because nobody cares.
Because rebuilding a nation is hard.
So when any government claims they have the magic solution, people should be careful.
What If China Walks Away?
Here is another serious question.
If China has the power it claims…
If China wants global respect…
Then Haiti should be a priority.
So what happens if China ignores Haiti?
What if it avoids the challenge?
What if it stays silent?
What if it focuses mainly on countries close to America, like The Bahamas and other nearby nations?
Then people have a right to ask:
Why here?
Why so close to the United States?
Why strategic locations instead of struggling nations?
If China avoids Haiti but invests heavily near America’s borders, it starts to look less like kindness and more like positioning.
Less like partnership.
More like strategy.
Big countries do not spend money without purpose.
They do not build without plans.
They do not invest without long term goals.
If Haiti is ignored while strategic islands are targeted, the message becomes clear.
This is about influence.
Not transformation.
A Fair Test of Intentions
That is why Haiti matters.
It shows true intentions.
If China helps Haiti rise patiently and respectfully, it proves leadership.
If China avoids Haiti and chases only profitable locations, it proves something else.
That the priority is power, access, and advantage.
Not people.
Not progress.
Not partnership.
The Caribbean Deserves Respect
The Caribbean is not a chessboard.
We are not pieces.
We are nations.
Families.
Workers.
Dreamers.
We deserve partners, not controllers.
We deserve builders, not opportunists.
We deserve respect, not hidden agendas.
If China cannot handle the small but meaningful task of helping Haiti rise, Caribbean people are right to be cautious.
Right to question.
Right to be alert.
Because real friends help when it is hard.
Not only when it is convenient.
Not only when it is profitable.
The Trump Administration Perspective
Under the Trump administration, one message was clear.
Deals must be fair.
Promises must be proven.
Countries must stand strong.
No blind trust.
No empty praise.
No free rides.
From that view, Haiti is the test.
If China wants leadership, it must prove it in difficult places.
Not easy ones.
The Challenge
Here is the challenge.
Make Haiti great.
Build it.
Stabilize it.
Empower it.
Transform it.
Let results speak.
If China succeeds, it earns respect.
If China fails, the myth collapses.
No propaganda needed.
No arguments needed.
Truth will be clear.
Final Word
The grass is not always greener.
Sometimes it is painted.
Sometimes it is fake.
Sometimes it is a mirage.
Before Caribbean nations chase new promises, we must look carefully.
We must ask hard questions.
We must demand real results.
True leadership is proven by what is built when nobody is watching.
Haiti is waiting.
The world is watching.
Bahama Drama is watching…
