I was just laying down listening to your voice note and people may be upset but you on point. But no matter what is said, there is no hope for Social Services as long as there are no changes at the top, in terms of managers and supervisors and HR. There is also a need for retraining and rebuilding from the bottom to the top. Look around, many key persons will retire in a few years and some of those next in line do not inspire you with confidence. The bottom line, we are not truly serving our clients and those most in need of help. Further, our staff remain the lowest paid in the public service but with some of the highest stress levels, pressure and demand. The majority of us make minimum wage and the permanent staff are not in much better position than the permanent staff and promotion is very slow or non-existent. But no matter what you do, until the issue of proper salary, promotions and confirmations are addressed, the bitterness and anger among staff will not begin to dissipate The bottom line is without income the staff can’t provide for themselves and their families because as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need would argue, you can’t address other needs untill the basic needs for survival such as food, clothing, shelter etc are met. It is simply time to address these problems and have honest conversations on the next move or you will lose young staff. The old tools of intimidation and victimization by managers will not work, people are just too fed up. I note that we have a new PS and head of HR, so hopefully this is the beginning of plans for training and development but, the staff needs hope if they are to serve the community. We need to strengthen our pillars, put down steel and prepare the foundation for a new Social Services because the old one is crumbling right before our eyes. All the best to you and your family.
