🌾🥩 HOW TO MAKE MEAT FROM WHEAT! 😲
Family, we have to talk about this because it sounds like a complete lie, but it is 100% real. You can literally turn a bag of Robin Hood flour into “meat.”
No beef, no chicken, no pork—just straight-up wheat!
If you told Grammy you were making Sunday dinner out of washed-up flour, she’d tell you to get out of her kitchen. But this is a real-life kitchen magic trick that will save your pockets when the food store bill starts looking crazy.
Here is how you turn simple wheat flour into a chewy, high-protein “meat” (aka Seitan):
* Knead the Dough: Mix 3 cups of flour with 1 cup of water. Knead it until it’s nice and smooth, just like you’re getting ready to make Johnny cake.
* The Rest: Put that dough ball in a bowl, cover it with cold water, and let it sit for an hour.
* The Wash-Down: This is where the magic happens. Start squeezing and kneading the dough right under the water. The water is going to turn milky white as the starch washes out. Pour that cloudy water off, put fresh water in, and wash it again. Do this 4 or 5 times.
* The Shrink: Your big dough ball is going to shrink way down until you’re left with a grey, stretchy, rubbery ball. Congratulations—you just washed away the carbs and kept 100% pure gluten protein!
Now, don’t go trying to eat it plain—it will taste like a rubber band!
To make it taste like real “meat,” tear it into bite-sized pieces and throw it in a pot. Simmer it down in a rich, heavy brown gravy with plenty of onions, sweet pepper, garlic, thyme, and a good kick of goat pepper. Let it soak up all those juices for about 45 minutes.
By the time you’re done, it cooks up so tender and chewy that if you serve it over some peas and rice, people will swear you made stew beef!
