In a landmark moment for law enforcement in the United States, North Miami, Florida appointed its newest Police Chief in August 2023, making history as the first woman of Haitian descent to lead a police department in the country.
With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, she built her career starting in Miami, steadily advancing through patrol, investigations, and administration. Before this appointment, she served as First Assistant Chief of Police in Miami, overseeing field operations and key divisions, earning respect for her leadership, professionalism, and dedication to community service.
Her swearing-in ceremony on August 18, 2023, drew city officials, fellow officers, and residents who celebrated not only her achievement but also the milestone it represents for women and Haitian-American communities. Her leadership emphasizes community engagement, transparency, and trust, focusing on building strong partnerships between officers and residents to enhance public safety through understanding and communication.
Her appointment also highlights the growing presence of women in top law enforcement roles in the region. While her rise is a historic first, it reflects a broader movement toward inclusive leadership that mirrors the communities officers serve.
North Miami’s decision to place her at the helm serves as an inspiration nationally, proving that dedication, experience, and vision can break barriers and create new paths for future generations.
