🚨 BREAKING: CHAOS AT THE WHITE HOUSE – GUNMAN SHOT DEAD AFTER OPENING FIRE NEAR SECURITY CHECKPOINT! 🚨
By: Michael Elijah Muhammad Clare
Nassau, Bahamas – May 24, 2026
Bahamians, our hearts are with our American neighbours following yet another shocking incident of violence right at the doorstep of the most powerful residence in the world. Yesterday evening, Saturday, May 23, 2026, around 6:00 p.m. EDT, a 21-year-old man identified as Nasire Best from Maryland approached a Secret Service security checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, outside the White House complex.
According to official reports, the suspect pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing at officers. Secret Service agents responded immediately, returning fire and striking the gunman. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Tragically, a bystander was also wounded in the exchange.
President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident and remained unharmed. The White House was placed under temporary lockdown as a precautionary measure, with journalists and staff seeking shelter. No Secret Service officers were injured.
This marks the third reported incident involving gunfire near President Trump in recent weeks, raising serious concerns about escalating security threats in the United States. Authorities have noted that the suspect had a prior history of mental health issues and previous encounters with White House security.
As Bahamians who value peace and stability, especially with strong ties to the United States through tourism, family, and diplomacy, we pray for the swift recovery of the injured bystander and continued protection for all leaders. Such acts of violence have no place in any society.
What are your thoughts on this troubling development? Could increased mental health support and stricter security protocols prevent future tragedies? Drop your comments below – but remember to keep it respectful.
