KING CHARLES III ATTENDS LONDON FASHION WEEK HOURS AFTER BROTHER’S ARREST
By: Michael Elijah Muhammad Clare
LONDON — It was a surreal Thursday in the heart of the British capital as King Charles III made a high‑profile public appearance at London Fashion Week, just hours after his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The arrest of the former Prince Andrew, who turned 66 on the same day, stemmed from a newly launched investigation into allegations that he shared confidential government information with the late convicted sex‑offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as a UK trade envoy. Police from Thames Valley confirmed the arrest and searches at properties in Norfolk and Berkshire as part of the inquiry.
Despite the unfolding crisis surrounding the royal family, King Charles, dressed smartly and greeted by cheers from the crowd, carried on with scheduled engagements in the style capital, sitting front row at the inaugural show of London Fashion Week at 180 Strand.
At the event, the monarch toured exhibitions and greeted designers and dignitaries. His presence underscored his commitment to supporting British culture and industry, even amid intense scrutiny back home.
In an official statement earlier in the day, Charles acknowledged the news of his brother’s arrest with “the deepest concern” and said he supported the legal process: “The law must take its course.” Buckingham Palace also noted that the royal family will continue its public service duties while the investigation unfolds.
Experts say the arrest of a senior member of the British royal family is unprecedented in modern times, and the investigation represents a major development linked to the release of millions of pages from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Epstein files.
As of Thursday evening, Mountbatten‑Windsor has been released under investigation, meaning he is free while inquiries continue. No charges have yet been filed, and the former royal has not publicly commented since his arrest.
