BREAKING NEWS: RPG LAUNCHER FOUND STASHED IN PRIDE ESTATES
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A disturbing discovery in the capital has raised fresh concerns about the presence of high-powered weaponry in The Bahamas.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force has seized a rocket-propelled grenade launcher from a bushy area on the southern side of Pride Estates, just off the Tonique Williams-Darling Highway.
The weapon was discovered on Tuesday evening, October 6, shortly after 7:00 p.m., after police officers acted on intelligence.
According to police, the search involved members of Operation Black Scorpion, the Anti-Terrorism Unit and the Canine Support Unit.
During the operation, officers located an abandoned stove hidden in the bush. Beneath the stove, they discovered a green camouflage bag containing the RPG launcher.
The weapon has since been seized and removed from the streets. It will undergo forensic examination as investigators work to determine where it came from, how it entered the country and who may have intended to use it.
The Anti-Gang and Firearms Investigation Task Force is continuing the investigation.
At this time, police have announced no arrests in connection with the discovery.
The seizure raises serious questions about the growing availability of powerful firearms and military-style weapons in The Bahamas. How did an RPG launcher end up hidden in a residential community, and who was behind it?
Those questions remain unanswered as the investigation continues.
Bahama Drama will be watching this developing story closely.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact 911, 919, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS (8477).
