The Quiet Sell‑Off of the Bahamas

The Bahamas is being sold off, piece by piece, across the length and breadth of the Family Islands. Foreign ownership is expanding at a pace that ordinary Bahamian’s cannot compete with, and the system has been carefully designed to make it look “legal.” A Bahamian name appears on paper. A local partner is inserted. A company is registered. But when the dust settles, control, profit, and long-term ownership end up in foreign hands.

Future generations of Bahamian’s are being priced out of their own inheritance. By the time today’s children and their children, reach adulthood, many will return home only to discover there is no land left to own unless they buy it back from foreigners at foreign prices, often through a Bahamian face acting as a front.

This is why posts and conversations about commonage land and generational land on Bahama Drama have gone quiet. I see how wealthy and politically connected Bahamian’s are using government officials to sign off on cutting off those of us who have been waiting for crown land since Jesus was a baby.

With the stroke of a government official’s pen, one well-connected, wealthy Bahamian can be issued hundreds or even thousands of acres under many kinds of land ownership. One can’t help but wonder if money is being slid under the table.

They are all somehow partners with foreigners to build on it and sell houses, splitting the earnings, while ordinary Bahamian’s are left waiting for their piece of the pie, a piece of their own country and that wait remains in vain.

This is not happening because Bahamian’s stopped caring, but because there’s less and less land left. What once belonged to families for decades is now being quietly converted into “investment opportunities” for the wealthy.

This isn’t happening without Bahamian’s involved. Government policy, legal loopholes, and wealthy local elites are facilitating these deals. The same small circle benefits while the average Bahamian watches beachfronts and other landscaps disappear behind gates, signs change languages, and access slowly vanish, just ask the vendors at cabbage Beach over on Paradise Island what that means!

This is not development for the people. This is extraction.

If Bahamian’s stay silent, comfortable, or distracted, the outcome is already written. Land is the foundation of sovereignty, identity, and generational stability. Once it’s gone, no amount of citizenship, flags, or speeches will bring it back.

Bahama Drama tells no lies.

Wake up. Ask questions. Demand transparency. What’s being sold today is not just land, it’s your children’s future.
