Bahamas Power & Light, or is it Bahamas Power & “Light Sometimes”?
Bahamas Power & Light, or is it Bahamas Power & “Light Sometimes”?
Electricity was first scientifically studied in 1600 and became a household necessity by the late 1800s. That’s nearly 225 years of humans knowing how to make the lights stay on and yet, here in 2025, our government-owned power company is still out here treating blackouts like surprise birthday parties. 🎉
But the only surprise is really the bill at the end of the month.💸
One minute you’re in the middle of something important, the next minute — BOOM — blackout!
And when the lights finally come back, your electricity bill still looks like it powered all of Miami for a weekend.
It’s like BPL took a vow: “We shall provide outrageous light bills and occasional electricity to the people of The Bahamas.”
Around the world, people have enjoyed steady electricity for over 100 years.
Meanwhile, Bahamians have perfected the art of eating, bathing, ironing, and charging phones during “Power Window Hours.”
It’s like the power company has been playing the game Red Light, Green Light with the electricity from the 1980’s.
At this point, you have to wonder, is BPL still trying to discover electricity, or is this just a lousy company no matter how many times they change their brand name.
The Bahamas government shouldn’t own the power company. It should be sold to a Bahamian company or entity and privatized, so that it can be held accountable…
