The nation remains gripped by the tragic unfolding of the Katrina Kelly case. As of September 10, 2026, three individuals from Eleuthera remain behind bars at Fox Hill as the island community and family members continue to grapple with the shocking transition from a desperate missing person search to a full murder prosecution.

Where the Case Stands Today

Behind Bars and Remanded

Following their arraignment before Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans, the three accused, 31 year old Rico Hepburn, 34 year old Dencil “Gio” Delancy, and 43 year old Jakita Cash, remain remanded at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. Bail was denied in the lower court.

The Charges Laid

The trio faces joint charges for the unlawful murder of 34 year old Katrina Kelly in Eleuthera on August 11, 2026. In addition to the murder charge, they are also facing a separate count of intentional property damage for allegedly destroying Ms. Kelly’s 2013 Nissan Cube, valued at $7,000.

The No Body Legal Battle

Defense attorney Ben McKinney raised objections during the initial court appearance, arguing that charging the accused with murder was premature because Ms. Kelly’s body has not been recovered.

The magistrate ruled that such legal arguments must be taken to the Supreme Court.

Attorney General Wayne Munroe has publicly supported the Crown’s position, emphasizing that under Bahamian law, prosecutors can pursue and secure a murder conviction using circumstantial evidence even when a body has not been recovered. Similar cases have also been prosecuted successfully in other jurisdictions.

Next Major Court Date

The case has been adjourned to February 4, 2027. On that date, a Voluntary Bill of Indictment is expected to be served, allowing the matter to move from the Magistrate’s Court directly to the Supreme Court for trial.

The Island Impact and Community Fallout

The disappearance and subsequent murder charges have left North Eleuthera, particularly the community of The Bluff, deeply shaken.

Ms. Kelly was known as an assistant manager at the Pink Sands Hotel, an entrepreneur operating a car rental business, and a dedicated mother.

Since her disappearance, family members, including her uncle Keith Kelly, have repeatedly had to deal with painful and unverified rumors and false reports circulating on social media about the alleged discovery of her remains.

Police and relatives have confirmed that despite extensive search efforts involving local volunteers, police canines, and divers searching local channels, Ms. Kelly’s remains have not been recovered.

The tragedy has brought additional heartbreak to the family, coming less than a year after Ms. Kelly’s younger brother, Ashantio “Clevorn” Johnson, was violently killed in late 2025.

As the country looks ahead to the February 2027 court proceedings, the mood across the islands remains one of sorrow, calls for justice, and a painful hope that the Kelly family will eventually receive answers, closure, and a proper resting place for Katrina Kelly.

May God shine blessings and strength on her family…
