Remembering Elon “Da Crab Man” Moxey
The Bahamas has lost a true cultural gem with the passing of Elon “Da Crab Man” Moxey, a beloved entertainer who dedicated his life to Bahamian music. Born in Mangrove Cay, Andros, Moxey’s musical journey began humbly, but his passion and talent carried him to stages across the country, where he became a household name.
Moxey was a master of rake-and-scrape, a genre deeply rooted in Bahamian heritage. His signature song, At the Crab Fest, captured the spirit of Andros’ annual event and became an anthem for many who love the tradition. His music was more than entertainment it was a celebration of Bahamian identity, storytelling, and the lively rhythms that define the islands.
For over four decades, he brought joy to audiences, whether performing at local festivals, hotels, or private events. His unique voice, infectious energy, and deep respect for Bahamian culture made him stand out in a world where authenticity is often lost.
His passing has left a void in the Bahamian music scene, but his contributions will never be forgotten. The outpouring of love and condolences from fans, fellow artists, and cultural figures is a testament to the impact he had on the nation.
