Hey Bahamas Press (BP)

Hey Bahamas Press (BP)

What is unfolding tonight involving Bahamas Press, Joan Rolle, and Debra Moxey Rolle calls for a calm pause rather than more heat.

Online exchanges can move quickly, especially when local concerns in Exuma and questions about government or community direction come up. Strong feelings are understandable. Yet the best path forward is still the same one that has always served Bahamians well: space for every voice to be heard without the conversation turning personal.

Joan and Debra, as people who care deeply about their island and its future, deserve the chance to raise issues, explain their views, and be met with the same respect they are asked to give. Bahamas Press, like any public platform, plays a role in keeping information flowing. Disagreement is healthy. Shutting doors or focusing on personal histories instead of the substance of the concerns is less so.

Freedom of expression belongs to all of us. We can hold different opinions about development, local priorities, or how things are being managed and still treat one another as fellow Bahamians who want the best for these islands.

Let’s keep the door open.
Let’s keep it fair.
Let’s keep it respectful.

That is what a mature, democratic conversation looks like, whether the topic is Exuma, national policy, or anything else that matters to the people who live here.

Bahamians do not have to agree in order to listen. And listening is still the surest way to move forward together.

Besides I know both women, and they are great people to know.

Let’s keep our democracy healthy…
